betty runs again

I have been a super slacker with the running lately. There I admitted it…I was having one of the more challenging days I have had in a while. I am starting my period, I am worried about money, I haven’t lost as much weight as I would like to this point, and the list goes on. When I start to worry it becomes a bit of a spiral and very soon turns in to a depression. I have been keeping the lows at bay with running and other forms of exercise but I have been gradually letting the frequency slip. I really notice it when I missed a run day when I was running frequently but now a lower grade malaise comes over me, kind of insidious and sneaky.

What did I do about it? I tossed on my getting too old runners and my kind of ugly running top and headed out in to the night air. Went to pop in my ear buds… connect to power source arrrggg. Oh well suck it up and keep going. Got a bit further and my head felt like it was going to split open, oh well suck it up and keep going. 32 degrees at nine o’clock at night, suck it up. Almost home Yikes there goes my gut better hurry up and get home. Ever have runners gut? You start looking for places that might make a good makeshift bathroom. I made it home. I will spare you any further discussion on this topic.

MORAL OF THIS STORY?….SUCK IT UP

not busy enough…

mark and macy

I am of course referring to the puppy in the picture. We all know that husbands can be quite time consuming as well, but the puppy is the new factor in my life. Her name is Macy. We have a Chocolate Lab called Hoha (Gogga in Afrikaans, he came with the name and the kids insisted we not change it). Sooo our new puppy needed a cute name and Mark researched Afrikaans words and came up with Meicie which means “girl or lass”  luckily our puppy is a girl. We simplified the spelling to Macy.

I am starting to wonder why we do this to ourselves? Do we love the thrill of the new?? Or do we let things come to us and accept them as they were meant to be. Originally we just admired this little pup at the SPCA but for some reason she kept coming back on our radar. We ended up picking her up the day before we went camping and she was a dream aside from her dew claws incision becoming infected (thank goodness there was a nurse around). She just chilled at the camp site, rode well in the car, and only peed in the tent once.

Some times things might seem overwhelming and too much but maybe the universe is trying to give you a little nudge. I suppose I would rather live a busy somewhat hectic life rather than look back on a completely calm and organized life with regrets.

rain, mosquitos and KD

Balfour ferry 2009

Balfour ferry 2009

It has taken me a long time to get excited about camping, especially with kids and dogs. You may wonder why I wouldn’t like to enjoy the great outdoors in all of it’s glory…I do not like to be dirty, there I said it. I do not like chaos. We went camping in the Kootenay’s for 4 nights and it was bloody awful, it rained and rained, the mosquitoes were having a population boom. Golly we were troopers, running from the tents to the shelter of the car and back again. Our big boy Chocolate lab Hoha was so afraid of the thunder he had to sleep in the back of the car, he is a bit of a princess.

As I am trying to be and optomist, the great part of the trip were visiting family and seeing the really cool location for the Shambhala festival http://www.shambhalamusicfestival.com/  my little sister Amanda is feeding all of the hard working volunteers and coordination the vendors.

Camping can be fun and it can be awful… for the most part I tried to make good choices but it is really difficult to avoid the chips and marshmallows. I do not like being deprived. I come back to the main lesson I have learned in this weight loss journey. Try to make good choices, if you slip pull up your socks and move on …get your ass to the gym, go for a run. It is not possible to gain 60 lbs over a weekend.

I have eaten really well for the past three days and I have my meals planned for the week. I had a killer workout last night. I am ready to kick some ass.

Tattoos with meaning

star tattoo 1 Where to Find Star Tattoos Pictures

This is not my tattoo, just an idea off the ol’ Internet

Those of you that found your way here by googling star tattoos stick around and read a my blog. It is meant to be inspiring for those who want to lose weight, gain fitness, or just be inspired.

I watched The Proposal  this weekend. It’s a romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. The movie was quite heartwarming as well as funny. Sandra Bullock’s character has a tattoo that has a special meaning (I won’t ruin it for you). I really want to make sure that I have the tattoo right before I commit it to my body. I think I am going to book the appt for September, after all of the swimming at the beach  sun exposure, and I hear they get booked up quickly. While I am waiting I will figure out where to put it and what exactly I want it to portray.

Stellar Race

woo hoo the finish

Well the Peachland 5 k went really well. Mark ran with me the whole way! I pushed myself pretty hard and ran the whole way. I personally don’t like to take walk breaks when I am running, I find it messes with my stride and causes me to seize up. It also kind of irritates me when I pass someone who is walking and then a couple of seconds later they go sprinting past me only to end up walking again in a few seconds. I am I a running snob? Should I just applaud them for being out and being active? Probably right.

Anyhoo the race was great. I did not really have any preconceive idea about what time I wanted to acheive. Part of the way through the race I decided I might like to finish under 30 min, so we upped the pace a bit. Mark and I crossed the finish line together for a time of 00:27:20 ish I don’t have the offical time yet, doesn’t really matter I know it was under 30 min Yippee.

I am excited to see what I can do once I have lost the last 30 lbs and i have more experience running.
